You know the saying don’t judge a book by its cover? Well it totally goes for this recipe.
This salad is the “
butterface“buttertaste of the salad world. It is ugly and sloppy but it is downright delish and a serious hit at every backyard BBQ I have hosted.
I will never forget the first time I saw this salad. A woman from our HR department brought it to work. I saw it on the table and tilted my head like a confused puppy and said WHAT is THAT? She laughed and said “Dorito Taco Salad, just try it.” I did and I still can’t believe that it was actually love at first bite. I immediately asked for the recipe and it has become one of my go to easy appetizers for when I host summer parties.
Ready to see this unsightly yet scrumptious beast of a salad? Here it is…
Once you can get over the look and take a bite you will quickly realize is combines everything you love about tasty tacos with the orange powdered finger licking goodness of Doritos. The real secret weapon that makes this summer salad so special though is the Catalina Dressing.
Dorito Salad Recipe
- 1 lb ground beef (brown & drain oil)
- 1 packet of taco seasoning
- 4-5 tomatoes (chopped)
- 1 head of lettuce chopped (I usually use green leaf, don’t like iceberg)
- 1 bag of shredded cheese
- 1 bottle of Catalina dressing (or 2 small bottles)
- 1 bag of Doritos crushed
Brown ground beef & drain excess oil. Follow directions on packet of taco seasoning. Let cool.
Mix beef, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese & Catalina dressing. Add crushed Doritos & mix again.
*If you are bringing this to someone’s house, mix the dressing and Doritos once you get there so it doesn’t get soggy.
I serve this with TOSTITOS® scoops chips which are perfect for dipping. Enjoy!
