In the heart of New York City, at One Bryant Park, is an intimate and elegant dining experience that I am so happy my husband discovered. While searching for the city’s most romantic restaurants Joe found Aureole and was impressed to find that in the past ten years they have been awarded with ten Michelin Stars as well as being name to the Foodie Top 100 list. After our incredible experience I can certainly understand why they have received so much praise. Here is a recap of our night.
This picture simply doesn’t do this delicious little creation any justice but it was fantastic in every sense of the word. The presentation of this amuse bouche in a delicately cracked eggshell was creative and sophisticated. Inside was a rich butter poached Maine lobster with egg custard topped with white sturgeon caviar. We were both left wanting more but knew we were in for a truly delightful meal after tasting this first treat.
We both ordered the Garganelli pasta with braised rabbit and celery pesto as our appetizer. Usually one of us orders something that the other person is jealous of and we were both pleased that we chose to get the same thing because this would have been tough to share! The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente and the combination of celery pesto with shaved radishes and mushrooms created the perfect earthy flavor to compliment the tender braised rabbit.
We were also pleasantly surprised with the generous portion size. Isn’t the plating stunning?
Once again we opted for the same dish. For our entree we selected the Snake River Farms Ribeye with a potato croquette and roasted carrots. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was melt in your mouth tender and juicy. We weren’t overly impressed with the sides but to be fair I have never been a huge fan of potato croquettes. I would definitely order this dish again but would ask for a substitute. I think creamy mashed potatoes would have made this the perfect dish.
After three fantastic dishes in a row we were anxiously awaiting what dessert would bring and we were both delighted. For the first time during dinner we chose different options. Joe ordered the Lemon Meringue and I ordered the Saint Honorè which included Manjari Chocolate Mousse, Praline and Candied Hazelnut.
Joe said his dish was light and refreshing and he loved how the tastes of lemon and strawberry complimented each other. My chocolate mousse was downright sinful. I loved how each taste of chocolate was unique and the candied hazelnut was the cherry on top.
Aureole not only served us a phenomenal meal that we won’t soon forget but their service was top notch. Their attention to detail ranging from ensuring to placing and picking up each of our plates at the same time (a true sign of class) to speed of service, knowledge of how the food was prepared and genuine kindness was much appreciated.
We will definitely return for another romantic date night at Aureole and I encourage anyone looking for an incredible dining experience in the heart of New York City to join them for an incredible meal and evening.
