A Spontaneous Playdate with My Inner Child

Wake up little one, I haven’t seen you in quite some time. You’ve been in a deep slumber as your counterpart is laser focused on her career, taking care of a home and worrying more about the future instead of taking a moment to stop to enjoy all the wonderful things around her.

As I sit at home, hair still soaked from this evening’s water gun fight with my younger cousin, I am smiling. Tonight my inner child emerged after being in a deep slumber and it felt absolutely incredible.

A simple water gun fight, barefoot and in a dress, on the first official night of summer helped me to remember what it was like to be kid. I can’t remember the last time I ran around full speed without a care in the world but what I do know is I loved every second of it. Thanks to my little buddy for bringing her out tonight!

When was the last time you said hello to your inner child?

The end of childhood is when things cease to astonish us.  When the world seems familiar, when one has got used to existence, one has become an adult.  ~Eugene Ionesco

Right around this same time, my husband and I hosted a family dinner for Father’s Day. Our 3 nieces and one nephew were there and we had off & on rain through the day. After eating I found an empty trashcan and started filling water balloons. We had an epic water balloon fight (even getting Papaw in on it)! It is always a treat to remember the joys of childhood, without worries of wet clothes, footprints through the house and all the other stuff we let get in the way of fun.
