How To Make Your Home Smarter for $1,000 (or less)

After experiencing this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year I have become absolutely fascinated by smart home technology. In fact, as soon as I got home I ordered the Sengled Pulse, which is a light bulb that also plays music. (Bright idea, amirite?!)

This month I had the opportunity to represent my company, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, on a special Smart Home segment on NBC’s Open House NYC at this gorgeous home in Montville NJ.

A Spontaneous Playdate with My Inner Child

Wake up little one, I haven’t seen you in quite some time. You’ve been in a deep slumber as your counterpart is laser focused on her career, taking care of a home and worrying more about the future instead of taking a moment to stop to enjoy all the wonderful things around her.

As I sit at home, hair still soaked from this evening’s water gun fight with my younger cousin, I am smiling. Tonight my inner child emerged after being in a deep slumber and it felt absolutely incredible.

Guilt Free Kickin’ Chicken Bites

No Bake Blueberry pie (3)Guilt free chicken nugget bites smothered in a sweet and punchy glaze? Yes, please!

I have seen recipes for Honey Garlic Chicken floating around on Pinterest for quite a long time but stayed away from them because they seemed like they would be packed with calories and just too much effort to make. Well I finally checked one of them out out and I am so glad I did.

This dish was way easier to make than I expected and because it is baked and not fried, not as guilty of a dish as I had guessed. It took about 40 minutes including prep time and it was well worth the effort.

You Won’t Be Able To Resist This Ugly Salad

You know the saying don’t judge a book by its cover? Well it totally goes for this recipe.

This salad is the “butterface“buttertaste of the salad world. It is ugly and sloppy but it is downright delish and a serious hit at every backyard BBQ I have hosted.

I will never forget the first time I saw this salad. A woman from our HR department brought it to work. I saw it on the table and tilted my head like a confused puppy and said WHAT is THAT? She laughed and said “Dorito Taco Salad, just try it.” I did and I still can’t believe that it was actually love at first bite. I immediately asked for the recipe and it has become one of my go to easy appetizers for when I host summer parties.
